Carpet comes in all sorts of styles, forms and colors. Choosing the right carpet to match your style is important, but make sure you consider the type of material before you buy. There are four basic materials that can make up your carpet fibers: Nylon, Polyester, Acrylic, and Wool. Each material brings something different to the table. We’ll give you the low down on each material so that you can make the best choice for your home.

Nylon

Let’s not waste your time. Nylon is the most popular, durable and affordable carpet fiber for basic home flooring. This material that is great at bouncing back after being compressed; making it a great option for highly trafficked areas of your home! Nylon is easy to clean, but is not stain or water resistant like some of the other carpeting options so don’t make your decision just yet.

Polyester

Polyester carpets are usually compared side by side with nylon. The style of these carpets is similar, but they differ in strength and resistance. Polyester is moisture resistant making it a great option for basements or areas of the home that are prone to mold. However, it is not a great option for high traffic because it lacks the durability of nylon.

Wool

Wool is a plush, luxurious option for home carpeting. Many choose wool for its eco-friendly, natural carpet fibers. It is also hard to beat when it comes to durability. Unfortunately, wool is more difficult to clean; it is also a more expensive option. But don’t rule it out just yet! It is a great option for a statement piece like a rug in the front room, or to bring a fancy feel to your office.

Acrylic

Acrylic carpeting is the perfect option for those who love the look of wool but can’t afford the maintenance. It is still plush and inviting, but is much easier to clean. Due to its fluffy nature, it is still a good idea to keep this carpeting in the low traffic areas of your home. But don’t worry about splurging on wool for your statement piece when acrylic will do the trick!
